Happy Tails!
Some animals arriving at Familiar Hearts require additional care before they can be placed in their permanent homes, which could involve medical attention, behavioral guidance, or the search for a particularly caring adopter. Explore the heartwarming stories of these Familiar Hearts animals below!

DIVA
Diva was abandoned in a carrier with all of her possessions on the steps of a church just before the annual Blessing of the Animals. We were contacted by a couple of our friends in the community and took her in. She had a note taped to her carrier explaining that her owner was homeless and could no longer take care of her and to “please find her a good home”
We promised.
We did.
EMBER & BABY DRIVER
Ember and Baby Driver were found in different sections of Philadelphia in July, 2022. Ember had an upper respiratory infection. Baby Driver was suffering from a serious pneumonia. Once they were healthy, we introduced them to each other and they immediately became friends. On October 9, they were adopted by a young professional who had just moved to Philly and wanted her new house to feel like a home. We are so grateful she choose to adopt and love these two little rescues so they can live happily ever after!
CANDY
Candy was rescued by a kind-hearted human after she was seen being violently tossed from her home and chased down the street! Her rescuer couldn’t take on another cat and reached out to us. On November 18, 2022, Candy was adopted and thrilled to discover her new furever home already loaded with toys! Her new Mom sent us these pics of her proudly parading around with her new favorite, a little spring that she needed to put somewhere safe before diving in to her first meal of many to come! Happy Life Candy!!
HONEY
Sweet Honey was found alone in a ball field in Philly. At first she was super shutdown but soon began to emerge from her shell. The awesome human who temporarily took her on for us began showing her the ropes as to what it’s like to be truly loved. At about two years old and a compact 47 pounds of sweetness, Honey quickly showed us she loves snuggling in bed and going for walks, is good with kids, other dogs and cats. She soon found a loving family. We know she looks skeptical but we're sure her humans will soon melt away her doubts.
PEANUT
Peanut was found as a stray. Thank you so much, Jibri Olugbala Douglas, for rescuing this little nugget of love and for sharing the burden of fostering her with Elisabeth Nickles . You two were such a dynamic team! Peanut got adopted December 27, 2022. Her new family had been discussing adopting a dog or a puppy for over a year and started carefully planning to bring this moment to life. Peanut gets to have a ton of older dogs around her as the direct neighbors and many friends have dogs. She even has a cat friend named Cali! We are so excited to see her so excited and to know she is set up for success! Happy New Life Peanut! And special thanks to her foster family who worked hard to make this moment happen!
VELVET
Velvet saved her own life when she walked up to her rescuer who was walking her own newly adopted dog and asked for help. Hours later we had her at Harleysville Vet and her new life had begun. Velvet is an incredibly sweet girl. She loves to kiss and cuddle and was grateful for every moment. It wasn't easy to let her go but her new mom takes her to work where she has a mission helping people with neurological issues. Plus she has a dog brother and human brothers. Her life is really great!
SLY
Sly was found by a hero named Billy who spent two days luring him out of his hiding spot in a city park. In the end, Billy used his remote control car to capture the puppy's curiosity. We suspect her may be Peanut's brother. Sly was with us only long enough to be fully vetted and neutered. A family of a mom and three human puppies fell in love with him and couldn't wait to take him home to romp and cuddle. Last we heard, those three kids were taking turns sleeping with him.
BLUEBERRY (ASH)
Blueberry (ASH) is one special dog! He was seen by several neighbors wandering around in traffic on Lincoln Drive! Can you imagine? They worked together and caught him! One family took him home to keep him safe. He had no collar, identification or microchip. Once we got him in our care, we found out he's a lot of dog. His energy level was over the top and he overwhelmed other dogs. Fortunately, our friends at ASH - Archie's School House, LLC agreed to board and train him. Bianca and Anthony decided to adopt Blueberry and gave him the name they had saved for just the right dog, ASH! So, Blueberry became Ash and he was officially adopted! We're so grateful to Bianca and Anthony for training this boy, loving him and for giving him a home and a mission.
